NAGAON: Due to incessant rain as well as release of excessive water from the dams of Dima Hasao-based Kapili Hydro Electric Power Project, the Kapili River is once again flowing one metre above the danger level since Wednesday and its overflowing water has submerged over 15 villages under Kampur and Raha revenue circles, sources added.

It is feared that the flood water will inundate more villages or areas under those two revenue circles in the district in next few hours, sources said. The flood water has already created panic among the villagers of the flood-hit areas under both the revenue circles, especially near Kampur Saibokgaon and greater Bakulguri area.

The overflowing water from Kapili River is flowing through the breached portion of the river embankment caused by the first wave of flood in May, because of which communication on the Kampur-Changchaki connecting PWD road was disrupted on Thursday, sources said, adding further that the river embankment constructed by the Water Resource Department, Nagaon was found in a critical condition near Bakulguri as due to rapid and frequent erosion, the river embankment had developed cracks. It is feared that the embankment will be breached soon.

Meanwhile, the district administration of Nagaon as well as authorities concerned of Kampur and Raha revenue circles have already initiated all emergency measures to mitigate the hardships of flood victims in those areas and have also attached the emergency response teams for rescue operation in the flood-hit areas.
